本書では日々の生活の様子が読みやすく描かれている。
アメリカは広大で、気候も厳しいみたい。
ナッシュヴィルはアメリカ南部と北部の境に位置する街とのこと。
著者は人々とのかかわりの中で、南部と北部の対立、人種偏見、差別などの問題を実際に感じ、いろいろ考えたようだ。
だが暗い感じの語り口ではなく、英語がまだまだ得意でない著者が親切な住人たちに翻弄されるという図式が多かったかな。
僕も最近さぼっている語学の勉強をしないと。
