青春文学だという。
僕はこの小説を寡聞にして知らなかったのだが、どことなくJ.D.サリンジャーの「ライ麦畑でつかまえて」を彷彿とさせるなぁと思った。
主人公の語り口調がなんかホールデンっぽかった。
ストーリーは都立日比谷高校に通う高校3年生の主人公の1日を描いているのかな。
主人公はいろいろと思い悩むが、最後に自分のなりたい理想像を見つける。
According to the afterword、日比谷高校は毎年200名近い東大入学者を出していたかなりすごい高校だったみたい。
エリート校の、受験競争になんて興味ありませんというキザなインチキ芝居についての描写はおもしろかった。
そこには美学が感じられる。
伝統校はこういうところがあったりするのかもしれない。
受験と関係ない遊びとか部活とか文化祭とかの行事にものすごく力を入れたりするもんな。
However,、学生運動の影響でその年の東大入試が中止になり、主人公は大学受験をやめ、来年また東大を受けようと決める。
大変な時代だったんだなぁ。
当時の時代を鮮やかに表した小説なのだろうか。
Also、この小説は1作目で続きがあって「薫くん四部作」というものがあるらしい。
まだまだ僕の知らない小説は多い…
