22の西洋の名画にひめられた意味や背景を読み解いてみせる本。
世界史的な内容や、キリスト教、ギリシャ・ローマ神話についてなどその批評、評価の範囲は広範に及んでいた。
絵画を普通にただ眺めていても、どういう絵なのかよく分からないことが多いから、こうして説明されるとよく理解できるな。
僕が印象に残った絵画は以下のようなものかな。
- ベラスケス-「ラス・メニーナス」
- エッシャー-「相対性」
- ヴェロッキオ-「キリストの洗礼」
- ブレイク-「巨大なレッド・ドラゴンと日をまとう女」
- ホガース-「精神病院にて」
- ベックリン-「死の島」
- ピカソ-「泣く女」
エッシャーのだまし絵は見ていておもしろいなぁ。
長崎のハウステンボスに作品がまとまって集められているらしい。
いつか観賞しに行ってみたいものだ。
ブレイクの作品はアメリカの作家トマス・ハリスの小説で取りあげられていたから有名かもしれない。
一つの絵画を小説の重要なモチーフにして作品を書くとはなかなかやるな。
僕は「レッド・ドラゴン」は小説も映画も見たことがあるが、また久しぶりに見てみたくなった。
まぁ内容はけっこう怖いけど…
Also、こうして観賞してみると、やっぱりピカソはすごいと思った…
この「泣く女」はキュビズムという描法で描かれているらしいが、素人の僕目線でも傑作という気がした。
芸術家というのは他人の感情を全て吸い取って自分の糧にしようとするから、怖い存在らしい。
そういうものなのかもな～
