- American Emotional Travel 安岡 章太郎 (Written by) Iwanami Shoten (Publishing House) / 岩波新書 1962年2月28日 (Release date) New book (Format) 1960-1961年の半年間、留学生としてアメリカテネシー州のナッシュヴィルで過ごした作家の手記。 本書では日々の生活の様子が読みやすく描かれている。 アメリカは広大で、気候も厳しいみたい。 ナッシュヴィルはアメリカ南部と北部の境に位置する街とのこと。 著者は人々とのかかわりの中で、南部と北部の対立、人種偏見、差別などの問題を実際に感じ、いろいろ考えたようだ。 だが暗い感じの語り口ではなく、英語がまだまだ得意でない著者が親切な住人たちに翻弄されるという図式が多かったかな。 僕も最近さぼっている語学の勉強をしないと。
- The Season of Hell ランボオ (Written by) / Hideo Kobayashi (Translation) Iwanami Shoten (Publishing House) / 岩波文庫 1970年9月 (Release date) Bunko (Format) 有名なフランスの詩人の作品。 表題作の「地獄の季節」と「飾画」という2つの作品が載っている。 僕は今まで読んだことがなく、今回初めて読みました。 なんとなく意味が分かるところもあれば、何を言っているのかよく分からないところもあったが、とにかく読み進んだ。 「地獄の季節」の「錯乱Ⅱ」という題名のところに、映画「気狂いピエロ」のラストシーンで引用されていた詩がのっていた。 また見つかった、 何が、永遠が、 海と溶け合う太陽が。 （錯乱Ⅱ p.38-39） というやつだ。 この詩にはやはり惹かれるものがあるな。 The rest、僕が気に入ったのは「飾画」の「橋」、「夜明け」などの詩かな。 白い光線が、中空から落ちて、この喜劇を消した。 （橋 p.78） 橋の上の情景を見ていたら、急に太陽がまぶしくなったということだろうか… 街へ出ると、彼女は、鐘塔や円屋根の間に逃げ込んだ。 （夜明け p.89） これは彼女＝太陽ということで、朝日が街にさしこんでいるということを表しているのかしら。 解説がないとよく分からない。 But、詩は元々そういうよく分からないものなのかもしれないな。
